Keoladeo Ghana National Park

Keoladeo Ghana NP is one of the best places in the country for bird watching. This magnificent bird haven was created by a maharaja by diverting water from a nearby irrigation canal, which created a fabulous shallow wetland ecosystem.

Today the park is recognised as one of the most important breeding and feeding grounds for birds in the world with many endangered species recorded. It is considered to be unique in the total number of bird species, has an impressive assortment of land and arboreal birds, but the grand spectacle is provided by the aquatic species.

For example there are several species of cormorants, ibises, duck, geese and crane, amongst which the Siberian Crane, one of the rarest species in the world, and Keoladeo Ghana is its only known wintering ground in India.

The best way to see the park is by cycle-rickshaw or by hiring a bike (motorised vehicles are not permitted).
