Jodhpur
Jodhpur, the blue city, once the capital of the former
princely state of Marwar, now is the second largest city
of Rajasthan, flanked on its western side by the
Mehrangarh Fort and on the eastern side by the stately
sandstone palace of Umaid Bhawan. The monuments, temples
and gardens of Jodhpur depict a multi-faceted grandeur.
Sightseeing
Mehrangarh Fort was built on a steep hill. This formidable hill top fort is among the best in India. Carved panels and porches, elaborately adorned windows and walls of Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Sileh Khana, seem to make the medieval splendour come alive. A collection of musical instruments, palanquins, royal costumes, furniture and the cannons on the fort’s ramparts are preserved.
Umaid Bhawan Palace is the largest private residence in the world, has the finest examples of art-deco, and is the only palace to have paintings from the Ramayana.
Jaswant Thada is a cluster of royal cenotaphs in white marble. Within the main cenotaph are the portrets of various Jodhpur rulers.
And don’t forget to pay a visit to Mandor Garden with its many monkeys, you for sure will enjoy.
From Jodhpur you can visit Balsamand Lake and Garden, Guda Bishnoi, Mahamandir temple, Jhalamand Garh, and Luni Fort .
Festivals
Nav Sati Festival (March/Apr.), Marwar Festival and Nag Panchami Festival (Jul./Aug.) are the three most important festivals in Jodhpur, celebrated with devotion and gaiety.
