Rajaji National Park
Rajaji National Park is an unspoilt park near Haridwar
in Uttarakhand. Inhabiting the dense green jungles that
form the park are an impressive array of creatures,
including chitall, sambar, jungle cat, wild boar, a few
hundred species of birds, and some tigers and leopards.
However, Rajaji NP is best known for its wild elephants,
numbering around 500.
The wide flat river valley which runs through the park
is an ideal place to spot animals as they come down to
the water’s edge to drink or gather at dusk at their
favourite salt lick.
Sometimes the damp ground near the river’s edge is transformed into a shimmering carpet as thousands of butterflies gather to drink.
The park offers jeep as well as elephant safaris.
