Udaipur
The city of Udaipur is a vision in white, drenched in romance and beauty, an inspiration for the imagination of poets, painters and writers. Its kaleidoscope of fairy-tale palaces, lakes, temples, gardens and narrow lanes strewn with stalls, carry the flavour of a heroic past. Their reflection in the placid waters of Lake Pichola is an enticing sight.
Sightseeing
The City Palace is a majestic architectural marvel towering over the lake on a hill surrounded by crenellated walls. Two island palaces, Jag Mandir and Jag Niwas are breathtaking.
Pay a visit to Saheliyon-ki-Bari, a small ornamental garden which was a popular relaxing spot where royal ladies came for a stroll.
See Gulab Bagh, a spectacular rose garden or visit Fateh Sagar, a beautiful lake.
Around Udaipur a visit to Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur is more than worthwhile.
Ranakpur is one of the five most important pilgrimage sites of Jainism. It is home to an exceptionally beautiful temple complex in the Aravali ranges and a must visit for the tourists coming to this region. The basement of the Ranakpur Jain Temple is a 48,000 sq feet area that covers the whole complex. There are 4 subsidiary shrines, 24 pillared halls and domes supported by over 400 columns. The artistically carved nymphs playing the flute in various dance postures are an interesting sight. In the assembly hall there are 2 big bells whose sounds echoe in the entire complex. The three other Jain temples in the same complex, including a temple of the Sun God, are all well worth a visit.
Kumbalgarh is an incredible stone fort compound. The fort walls stretch some 36 km, the second largest walls in the world, and enclose around 360 temples as well as palaces, gardens, baori’s and 700 cannon bunkers.
Both places can also be visited easily on the way when travelling between Jodhpur and Udaipur.

Mewar Festival is held in April, it’s Udaipur’s version of Gangaur, with free cultural events and a colorful procession down to the lake.
